Repair A Delta Scaldguard Faucet

Repairing a Delta Scald-Guard faucet yourself can save you money.


Delta Faucet Co. has been around since the 1950s and is a well-known manufacturer of faucets for kitchens and bathrooms. Delta's Scald-Guard faucets are designed to help protect you from potentially dangerous burns. With a Scald-Guard faucet, you can regulate the water temperature by turning a lever on the faucet. All faucets go through normal wear and tear over time, so it helps to know repair your faucet yourself.


Instructions


1. Shut off the water by locating the main water source and twisting the valve until you hear the water stop running through the water line.


2. Set a rag down in your drain and on the ground. The rag in the drain will keep you from losing any small parts. The rag on the ground is for you to place your parts on as you remove them. This helps make re-assembly of the faucet easier.


3. Remove the cap on the end of the faucet handle by popping it out with a screwdriver.


4. Take out the screw in the middle of the faucet handle by using a screwdriver. Remove the handle.


5. Remove the retaining nut on the front of the faucet assembly with a pair of pliers.


6. Remove the cartridge assembly, and inspect the parts for damage. Check the rubber seals, springs and o-rings located within the cartridge assembly. You may need to use a pair of needle-nose pliers to remove some of the springs and seals. Look for marks, tears and signs of wear. Replace any worn rubber seals, springs and o-rings with new parts from the Delta faucet repair kit.


7. Coat the new parts and the cartridge in plumber's grease. Put all the parts together in the reverse order you removed them.


8. Turn the water back on at the main source. Test to make sure everything is working properly.
