Repair A Cordless Shade

From time to time, cordless shades will need to be repaired for several main reasons: The shade is creeping or sagging, it hangs unevenly, it won't work smoothly, or it will not lift. All of these scenarios can be quickly and easily fixed with a few simple steps. In the case of the creeping or sagging shade, you will need to contact the manufacturer's customer service department and have them send you friction clips if the shade does not have any inside the headrail. You will also need to learn the procedure to install the friction clips from the customer service representative, as the installation method differs depending on the brand of shade.

Instructions

1. Take off the bottom rail end caps, and look inside for steel rods on either end.

2. Take out one steel rod and test the window shade for improvement. If the window shade is still not fixed, take out the other steel rod and put the first one back in. If this still does not work, try the window shade with both rods out.

3. Replace the end caps when you find a combination that works. If none works, the shade needs new friction clips and you will need to call the customer service department of the manufacturer.

4. Pull the shade all the way down by gripping the middle portion of the bottom. This should realign a shade that is hanging unevenly.

5. Remove a friction clip from the headrail of a shade that is not operating smoothly. If this does not work, remove all the friction clips and test the shade to see if it is working better.

6. Pull down gingerly on the bottom rail of a shade that will not lift. This should cause the spring to jump back in place or become reactivated.

Tips Warnings

A shade left in the closed position for a long period of time will need the spring to be reactivated.
