Wainscot beadboard product choices

Wainscot Beadboard product choices?

I've seen two different wainscot beadboard products at Lowes and Home Depot. One is unfinished pine wood with knots, 8' long strips, 3 strips per pack. The other product(Cap Cod Wainscot) appears to be paneling, 8' long strips and 7 wide. These also have a white finish ready for paint. These will be going up on my Kitchen wall over top of old wall paneling. Pulling the old stuff off would create a major problem due to my plaster walls. I intend to use both nails and glue. Have any of you had good or bad experiences with these products. I'd prefer to use the paneling, due to the knot free look and no needing to primer the wood for painting. Is the finished look much different between products? Thanks for any suggestions you may provide Bumping this up for you. Im curious as to what replies you get. Im wanting to put this up in my bathroom and possibly my kitchen. My bathroom walls are drywall, but my kitchen walls are plaster. Good luck For painted work use the Cape Cod. It's actually made of medium density fiberboard, MDF. The factory primed finish takes paint quite well. The pine is usually chosen by people who want a clear finish. It would take a lot of sanding and priming to produce the same painted finish as the MDF. Originally Posted by Jan2 For painted work use the Cape Cod. I would have thought they sold a better selection of product. Such as wood with little to not blemishes. Of course I imagine it would cost much more. Kevin, Lowes and HD have a pretty small selection. That's probably because most of the material they sell for beadboard projects is beaded plywood in 4' by 8' sheets. With some sanding and priming the plybead can look pretty good. For a better selection call around to your local lumber yards. The yards that handle moulding usually have beadboard of various grades.
