Clean The Filter On A Frigidaire Air Conditioner

Clean the Filter on a Frigidaire Air Conditioner

The Frigidaire brand of home appliances manufactured by The Electrolux Group (Electrolux) includes several models of air conditioners-built-in or window-mounted room units as well as portable units. Every Frigidaire air conditioner uses an air filtration system with one or more reusable filters. A room unit typically contains a single filter behind the front grill and a portable unit has three filters behind back panels. Cleaning a Frigidaire air conditioner filter requires that you remove any dust, dirt and other particle debris build-up at least once a month using dry and wet cleaning methods.

Instructions

1. Turn off and unplug your Frigidaire air conditioner.

2. Remove the filter from the unit. If you have a room air conditioner, close the air vent above the front grill. Remove the grill and pull out the filter or grasp the top of the filter via a tab located at the top center of the grill and pull the filter up and out of the unit. If you have a portable air conditioner with three filters, grasp the tab at the top of the upper intake panel, pull the panel forward and then pull the first filter from behind the grill. Unscrew the lower air intake panel and remove the grill from the unit. Slide the second filter from behind the side panel and the last filter from the grill.

3. Vacuum the filter. Place a brush attachment on your vacuum's extension hose. Turn on your vacuum and gently brush across the filter on both sides to remove dust, dirt and other particles.

4. Wash the filters. Soak the filters in warm, soapy water in a sink, bathtub or other large tub for 10 minutes and then wipe away any dirt or oily residues with a soapy, lint-free microfiber cloth.

5. Rinse the filter thoroughly until you can no longer see any soapsuds.

6. Set the filter aside to air dry. When finished, return the filter to your unit reversing your actions from Step 2.

Tips Warnings

Always clean your filter at least once a month as dirty filters can lose filtration and cause frost build-up on the unit's cooling coils.

Never use harsh cleaners on your Frigidaire air conditioner filter as the chemicals in certain cleaners can damage the filter or unit.
