Krups 963b Instructions

Use your Krups espresso machine to make a delicious cupful.

Espresso is a stronger, richer beverage than classically brewed coffee, and as such it is meant to be enjoyed in smaller quantities. Electric espresso machines use steam pressure to force water through finely ground coffee to create espresso. Some models, such as the Krups 963B, also have a steam nozzle for steaming milk to create a cappuccino or a latte. Because these machines use high pressure, it is essential to follow all instructions carefully.

Instructions

Espresso

1. Plug your Krups espresso machine into a power outlet, making sure to leave the power switch in the Off position.

2. Unlock and remove the filter holder by grasping the handle and turning it to the left.

3. Place the filter basket into the filter holder.

4. Fill the filter basket with ground espresso. The basket is marked with two levels, indicating two or four cups, depending on the amount of espresso you want to make.

5. Pack the espresso lightly in the filter basket and clear the rim of any loose grounds.

6. Line up the arrow on the filter holder with the arrow on the left side of the machine. Raise the filter holder into the brew head of the machine, then turn the handle to the right until it will go no further to lock it into place. The arrow on the filter holder must be at least in the middle of the lock range before operating the espresso machine.

7. Twist the boiler cap on the top of the machine counterclockwise.

8. Fill the boiler with cold water using the glass carafe. Each cup of water added will yield one cup of espresso. Add an extra cup of water if you intend to steam milk for cappuccino.

9. Return the boiler cap to the machine and turn it clockwise to close it tightly.

10. Place the lid on the glass carafe and position the carafe under the filter holder nozzle.

11. Turn the steam release knob clockwise to the Closed position.

12. Turn the power switch to On.

13. Switch the power switch to Off once the espresso has finished brewing. This may take several minutes.

Cappuccino

14. Fill a small pitcher halfway with cold milk.

15. Hold the pitcher under the steam nozzle with its tip halfway into the milk.

16. Turn the steam control knob a full turn just as the first drops of espresso are forced through the filter holder.

17.Hold the milk pitcher steady for about a minute while the milk froths, making sure the nozzle doesn't touch the bottom of the pitcher.

18. Turn the steam release knob clockwise to close it while the tip of the nozzle is still immersed in the milk.

19. Pour the espresso into a cup. Add the steamed milk and a spoonful of foam to the top of the cup.

Tips Warnings

To make espresso directly into cups, clip the cup adapter onto the filter holder and place one espresso cup under each spout. Always check if the contents are still under pressure by turning the steam release knob.

Never open the boiler cap or remove the filter holder when the power switch is in the On position.

Clean the steam nozzle every time you use it or it will get clogged.
