Is kinetico worth triple the price of a regular softener

Is Kinetico worth triple the price of a regular softener?

So our water softener needs to be replaced (it's 30 years old). We had a Kientico dealer stop by but I don't believe all the hype they were telling. Their system is 3-5 times more expensive than a regular softener and I'm not thinking it's worth it. Here's some of the main reasons they said we should get Kinetico. -Non-Electric. Well, the only electric thing on a regular softener is the clock/timer. These cost about $5-$10/year to run just like an alarm clock. Saving $10/year doesn't justify spending $2000 extra on the softener to me. -Two Tanks so you ever run out of softened water. The regular type we're looking at keeps softened water in reserve anyway. Whenever it senses it needs to recharge, it pulls from the reserve to get you through the rest of the day so I never run out of softened water like they make it sounds like I do. -Two Tanks so it refreshes with softened water. OK, this one I don't know about so fill me in. Does it matter that the resin bead things recharge with softened water vs regular water? Do regular tanks refresh with the reserve softened water? Is refreshing with hard water not as effective? -K5 RO system is the best. Not sure what extra it does but any RO system filters out 99.99% of stuff from the water. Plus I've heard that Kinetico charges an arm and a leg for the filters and wont' let you change them yourself. So I'd be paying more for the filters and then paying someone to come out and install them vs just doing it myself like I can with any other brand. So anyway, there's what we've been told and my thoughts on it based on other things I've read. What are you opinions? Am I right? Am I wrong? Am I part right and part wrong? Fill me in. The quote I got from the place we got our current softener is $950 for the softener and $650 or so for their RO system. The quote from Kinetico was $33 for their 4040 softener and $1800 for their K5 RO system. Thanks! What make/model of softener do you currently have now and what's it doing or not? My softener is ~26yrs old and is due for resin replacement. Other then that, it's been solid. I personally wouldn't give up my 2 tank, water powered softener, but for the price difference... I would if I had to do a full replace. What was the make and model of the other softener you where considering? You could be comparing a value model (think smart car) with a high end model (think cadillac). Current softener has started leaking and would cost $200-$300 to fix. It's also an old style Timer model that just goes off every X days instead of monitoring the water usage. So because of both of those things, we figured we'd be better off replacing it. The model we're comparing it to is made by Hansen Water (local company) Hanson Soft Water - Soft Water Specialists in Wisconsin and Your Source for Water Treatment Systems It would be a standard 1 tank, 1 salt reservoir unit. Current softener is from them and it's lasted 30 years and we have no complaints about it at all. I like the Kinetico system but feels they are over priced. You stated that your old softener lasted 30 yrs. You should expect the same from a new one but not pay the high price Kinetico charges. Do you need the RO system? I am curious about all the hype on here about RO.
