Open Your School Lock

Don't get locked out by your school lock.

School life can get hectic enough with essays, projects, exams and extracurricular activities. The last thing you need is to be slowed down between classes because you are fumbling with a school lock. Most schools assign lockers with built-in locks, while others enforce the use of student-owned locks to protect personal belongings. Built-in or store bought, be prepared to open your school lock easily so you always have access to your books and other school supplies.

Instructions

1. Use the buddy system to prevent a school lock disaster.

Write down your three-digit combination on a piece of note paper and have a good friend do the same thing. Tape your friend's number inside your locker and have your friend do the same so that you'll always have a way to retrieve your lock combination quickly in case you forget it.

2. Always start with the dial marker pointing at 0.

Begin with the dial in position, so that the marker is pointing at the 0. Turn the dial three full rotations clockwise (right), and bring the marker to rest on the first number of your lock combination.

3. Turn the dial two full rotations counter-clockwise (left), and bring the marker to rest on the second number of your lock combination.

4. Turn the dial one full rotation clockwise (right), and bring the marker to rest on the third number of your lock combination.

5. Pull the padlock portion down and away from the top latch, so that one side of the latch comes free allowing you to remove it from the locker.

6. Practice makes perfect, even when learning to work your school lock.

Practice unlocking your school lock a few times before you start using the locker.
