Laptop computers can essentially run and function the same as any desktop computer, except they are made to be used on the road. The laptop computer is designed like a folder and can be carried in a backpack or briefcase and has a battery so you don't need to be plugged into a wall to use it. No matter what the operating system on the laptop computer, the functions are almost always the same.
Instructions
1. Lift the screen up away from the keyboard. You may need to press a release button to unhitch the screen.
2. Push down the power button. The button will be located typically near the keyboard. Newer laptops will have the image of a circle with a line coming out the top on it. The operating system will now boot up.
3. Power off the laptop by going through the the operating system's shut-down procedure. For Windows click "Start" followed by "Shut Down." On a Mac click the Apple logo in the upper-left corner and click "Shut Down."
4. Charge the battery of your laptop by plugging the power cord into a wall outlet and insert the other end into the power port on the laptop. The battery will charge faster when the computer is off.
5. Use headphones with your laptop by inserting the headphone jack into the headphone port on the side of the laptop computer.
