Repair Torn Luggage

Today's luggage withstands more wear and tear than in years past.

In today's busy world with increased travel for business and pleasure, there are more opportunities for damage to a traveler's luggage. Torn luggage occurs when luggage is damaged by airport conveyor belts or while being transferred between flights. To save time and money involved in purchasing new luggage, the traveler can repair torn soft-sided or fabric luggage on her own with the use of a few simple tools.

Instructions

1. Repair small tears in fabric luggage with fabric glue. Purchase fabric glue at your discount or fabric store. Clean the tear with a damp cloth and allow it to dry. Apply glue to the tear in fabric and allow it to dry for 24 to 48 hours. Large tears require the use of a patch to repair the tear. Apply fabric glue to the patch and allow it to dry.

2. Repair tears in vinyl by purchasing vinyl cement from your hardware or discount store. Clean the tear with a damp cloth and apply vinyl cement to the tear and allow the cement to dry for 24 to 48 hours. Large tears require a vinyl patch to repair. Apply a vinyl patch to the tear with vinyl cement and allow it to dry.

3. Repair leather tears to luggage following the same steps as for vinyl. Purchase leather patches to repair large tears in leather luggage. Apply leather conditioner to torn luggage after repair to extend the life of leather luggage.
