Remove A Briefcase From A New Context Menu

Windows comes with a basic file synchronization feature called Briefcase. Copy files that you frequently update to the Briefcase so you can quickly update other computers with these files if you make any changes to them. If you prefer to use another sync feature such as the newer Sync Center found in Windows Vista and Windows 7, or if you do not use the Briefcase feature at all, you can remove it from the "New Context Menu" to reduce clutter. Doing so will also decrease the time it takes to bring up the menu when you want to create a new file type.

Instructions

1. Click the Start button and type "regedit" in the search box and press the "Enter" key. Go to "Run" and type "regedit" there if you are using Windows XP or an older operating system. A folder icon represents every key and subkey.

2. Double-click the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" key on the left side panel to see the available subkeys. Double-click on the "Briefcase" subkey underneath the "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT" key that you just expanded to find more subkeys.

3. Right-click the "ShellNew" subkey below the "Briefcase" key and click "Delete" to remove the Briefcase from the new context menu. Close the Registry Editor by clicking the "X" button on the upper right of the window.
