What Is An Appropriate Gift For A Law School Graduate

Graduation from law school is a time to celebrate.

Law school graduation is a time to celebrate the graduate's scholarly accomplishments. It is also often a time that marks the beginning of a new career for the graduate. Following graduation, many newly minted law school graduates study for and take state bar examinations. Then, with their bar results in hand, they start jobs as lawyers or embark on job searches. Give the law school graduate in your life a gift that looks to the future.

Briefcase

A nice briefcase would no doubt be useful to a young lawyer. He could take it to court with him or on job interviews. The briefcase could be used to store and carry legal documents, writing utensils and perhaps a book of case law. Briefcases can be purchased in a variety of colors and textures. As you browse briefcases to give to your law school graduate, make sure that you choose a briefcase that fits his personality. For example, you would not want to purchase a leather briefcase for someone who is pursuing a career in animal law and is an ardent supporter of animal rights.

Diploma Frame

Many law school graduates display their law school diplomas in their offices or homes. As a result, you may want to purchase a diploma frame for your graduate. If she has framed her college diploma, make sure that you choose a frame that will coordinate well with the college diploma frame. Many school bookstores sell diploma frames specifically designed to hold diplomas from that school.

Bar Examination Review Material

In order to practice law in most states, you must pass a bar examination. Each state administers its own bar examination which is held soon after law school graduations. Though your law school graduate may be happy to have completed law school, she likely has the bar examination on her mind. Consider purchasing bar exam review cards or a bar examination strategy book for her. Before you purchase the study materials, make sure that you determine which state bar examination she is taking.

Professional Attire

Most courtrooms recommend that lawyers dress in suits when in court. Additionally, many law firms require lawyers to dress professionally when they come to work. Consequently, your law school graduate is probably in need of a lot of professional attire. You could purchase a tie for him or a necklace for her to wear with a suit. If you are feeling particularly generous, you could even purchase a new suit for the graduate or present a gift card to a store that sells suits.
