Choose a computer-related gift for your dad.
When your father is technologically savvy, the best gift is likely something he can use with his computer. Many men use computers daily, either for work or play. Select something that will make his work easier or his play more fun. For a dad who doesn't know so much about computers, purchase one for him so he can learn.
Computer
The most basic computer-related gift of all is a computer. Maybe your father has an older desktop model that does not work so well anymore. Purchase a new computer for him, such as a smaller, sleeker desktop or even a notebook variety. Tailor the type of computer you purchase, and the software it has, to what his specific needs are.
External Hard Drive
Choose an external hard drive for your dad. This gift is perfect for the man who has a lot of files on his computer. He might have lots of photos, personal files, work information and other items on his computer. With an external hard drive, he can download all of those files and be perfectly safe if his hard drive crashes.
Laptop Case
Everyone who has a laptop needs a quality laptop case. Purchase a new one for your father. You could go with a heavyweight canvas one in a cool color. Many of these casual kinds of bags have straps that stretch across the chest for easy carrying. Maybe he uses his laptop a lot for work or professional meetings. In that case, purchase a nice brown or black leather laptop case. Some of these even look like briefcases, or actually are briefcases that have a slot for the laptop. Get his initials monogrammed on the outside of the case, to finish off the gift.
Game Controllers
Just because a man is a father does not mean he doesn't enjoy playing video games. There are many video games he can play using your computer, rather than a video gaming system. But to make playing the games easier and more fun, purchase a game controller or two for him. These controllers plug into his USB ports, so they are compatible to most computers. You can find game controllers that have simple buttons or the kind that operate like joysticks.
Computer Tutorial
For a dad that might need a bit of help getting up-to-date with the latest advancement, give him a computer tutorial. Enroll him in a class at a local college or community center. The class should teach him post pictures online and send them through e-mail, to video chat with his family and friends via the Internet and other computer capabilities. If you can't find such a class, make him a homemade gift card that gives him several hours of your time to help him with these skills.
