Dooney Suede Cleaning Instructions

Suede fabrics make for fashion-forward products you can wear everywhere from your feet to your wrist. Popular handbag maker Dooney & Bourke offers a line of suede and nubuck accessories, including handbags and wallets. Care for these items properly to ensure that your product remains in good condition for years to come. Does this Spark an idea?

Suede Care

Use preventive care when maintaining the look of your Dooney & Bourke suede handbag or wallet. Most importantly, keep the bag away from dampness, dirt and other damaging materials to help it stay in good condition. If the suede handbag gets wet, blot at the dampness with paper towels to absorb the moisture. Allow the bag to dry naturally. If the bag has become thoroughly wet and begins to lose its shape, remove any personal items and stuff the bag with wadded paper towels. After the bag has dried, gently brush the nap of the suede handbag using a suede brush. This will help bring the suede back to its original state and can also remove loose dirt or debris that may have soiled the bag.

Remove dry stains on suede bags or wallets with a brown art gum eraser or with white vinegar. Brush gently at the stain with the eraser to remove the stain and refresh the nap, or dip a damp cloth in white vinegar and blot at the stain gently. Allow the bag to air dry to get rid of the vinegar smell.

Warnings

The manufacturer offers some warnings about its suede handbag collection. Dooney & Bourke's website urges consumers to have consideration for the product during inclement weather and to avoid leaving your handbag in an awkward position when not using it. Keep the bags out of rain, snow or sleet, and watch for any spills or stains when placing the bag on the floor, ground or shelf.
