Repair Scratches In Leather

Scratches in most leather items can be repaired.

Leather is absolutely beautiful. Not only is it natural, it also lasts for a long time. The one thing that is difficult about leather is its ability to scratch easily. Pet claws, for instance, quickly and easily scratch leather. Whether you have left your leather purse, jacket, or couch available for your cat to jump on, your leather is in danger. There are certain ways you can repair scratches in leather by yourself.

Instructions

1. Purchase a liquid leather repair kit. The kit can be found at most retail stores.

2. Choose the right colored adhesive to match your leather. Leather repair kits come with many different colored adhesives. Since leather comes in many different colors, it is your job to choose the color that best matches your leather. If you can't find a match that is extremely close, call a professional.

3. Spread the adhesive on evenly with a toothpick once you choose your color. There should be no thick or light areas. The adhesive should coat the scratch evenly with no bumps.

4. Lay the correct grain paper over the liquid adhesive. Different leathers have different textures and looks. Liquid leather repair kits come with different types of grain paper. This paper is used to make the adhesive look like the grain of the leather.

5. Apply the included heat applicator to the paper. Rub the applicator over the paper covering the scratch for three minutes. You should then be able to easily peel the paper away from the adhesive. The heat should create an adequate bond between the adhesive and the leather.
