About Packing

About Packing

One of the most important and often stressful aspects of taking a trip is packing. Packing must be done according to the type of trip being taken, the weather of the designated location and the activities which will occur. Here are some suggestions that will make packing for a trip easier.

Function

The act of packing simply includes assembling items needed for a vacation or trip into luggage to be taken along. The basics included in most people's baggage includes toiletries and clothing that will be appropriate for the type of trip.

Types

Vacation types can be categorized according to individual styles and types of trips. People embarking on a business trip may pack business attire such as suits, ties and dresses. People may also include a carry-on briefcase with paperwork and their company itinerary. People traveling to tropical locations for vacations need to add swimsuits, beach towels and clothing designed for hot weather.

Individual preference also affects packing. People who prefer to have a variety of outfits and accessories are more likely to pack several suitcases even if the trip is short. This ensures that they will have an assortment of items to choose from. Other people prefer to simply take a few pieces of clothing for their trip. These individuals may pack all of their items in a single bag.

Benefits

Planning items according to the chosen destination and type of excursion can be very beneficial once the trip is underway. Checking the weather report for the designated location helps travelers plan the types of shoes and clothing that may be needed. For instance, if the area is scheduled to have a snow storm, packers should bring sweaters, coats and water-resistant footwear or boots. Extremely hot weather may call for suntan lotion and sandals. Although most travel destinations have stores that sell clothing and other amenities, in tourist locations, these items can be significantly more expensive. Therefore, people should try to bring items such as disposable cameras, batteries and sun block along with them.

Warning

Due to increased airport security, people traveling by air must be especially meticulous when packing. Airlines in the United States have strict limitations on carrying any liquids or gels that are over 3 oz. in their carry-on bags. Some airlines also limit the number of checked and carry-on luggage that passengers can bring. People who exceed these limits can be charged large fees in order to bring their additional bags.

Considerations

Certain packing tips can make travel much easier. Rolling clothes prior to packing them increases the quantity of clothing that will fit in a single bag and reduces some of the wrinkles. If breakable items are being packed, wrapping them in clothes can reduce the need for tissue paper. People carrying backpacks should pack heavier items on top because to make it feel lighter when carrying. It is also a good idea to pack items that are frequently needed at the top of the bag so that they can easily be reached.

Since most people travel to areas where they cannot access their bank accounts, it is usually a good idea to get traveler's checks, which are a much safer option than cash. Valuables should also be pakced in separate bags, rather than all together, in case a bag is stolen.
