The Windows registry holds the synchronization folder for Windows Mobile.
The Windows Mobile Device Center has the ability to synchronize with a folder on your computer with a Windows Mobile device such as a Pocket PC or phone. By default, the folder used for file synchronization has a name similar to Documents on My Smartphone. However, with a small registry change, you can have your Windows Mobile device synchronize with any folder in your Documents folder.
Instructions
1. Remove the Windows Mobile device from the cradle or USB cable to disconnect it from your computer, and close the Windows Mobile Device Center if it is currently running.
2. Press the Windows logo and "R" keys at the same time to display the "Run" dialog. Type "regedit" without quotation marks in the "Run" dialog and press "Enter." The registry editor is displayed.
3. Click the triangle-shaped icons to the left of each folder to navigate to "HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows CE Services > Partners (the alphanumerical ID of your device) > Services > Synchronization." Click the "Synchronization" folder.
4. Double-click "Briefcase Path" on the right side of the window. Change the name under Value Data to the name of the folder--preceded and followed by backslashes--that you would like to use when synchronizing your device. Note that this folder must be inside your Documents folder, located by default in C:\Users\(Your Name)\Documents. For example, if you have created a folder in your Documents folder called Sync, you would enter "\Sync\" in the Value Data box.
5. Click "OK" and close the registry editor.
6. Launch the Windows Mobile Device Center from your Start menu, then connect the device to your computer. Wait for the word "Connected" to appear in the lower-left corner of the Windows Mobile Device Center.
7. Hover the mouse pointer over "Mobile Device Settings" and click "Change Content Sync Settings."
8. Click the blue "Sync Settings" link under Files. The folder that you selected to sync your device with is now displayed under "Synchronize the files in this folder."
