Make An Ipod Touch Case Out Of Plastic Bags

Letting your new iPod touch bounce around in your purse, backpack, briefcase or pocket leaves it vulnerable to all sorts of damage, from scratches to a broken screen. Protect that handy little piece of technology with all its apps and built-in camera with a homemade eco-friendly case made from a stack of plastic shopping bags. The thick material you make from the bags will provide a layer of cushioning between your iPod and anything it may be traveling with while you carry it around in your backpack or pocket.

Instructions

1. Lay all four plastic bags flat. Trim the bags straight across the top and bottom to remove the handles and bottoms. Turn any bag that has print on it inside out so the ink doesn't create a mess when you heat the bag.

2. Stack all the bags between two sheets of parchment paper. Heat your iron to the cotton blend setting. Iron over the stack of plastic bags for 20 seconds to melt them together. Turn the stack over and iron the other side for 20 seconds as well. Let the whole stack cool completely.

3. Cut a 12 1/2-by-3 1/4-inch rectangle from the plastic fabric you created.

4. Lay the rectangle on your work surface vertically oriented. Fold the bottom 5 inches of the rectangle up. Sew along the sides of the pouch this creates with a 1/4-inch seam allowance.

5. Take one pair of fastener tape circles -- one hook half and one loop half -- and stick them together. Peel the backing paper off one half. Stick the pair to the top of the pouch 1/2 inch below the top edge centered between the left and right sides.

6. Peel the backing paper off the other half of the pair without separating them. Fold the flap of the pouch down as if you were closing the case. Press the flap on the fastener tape pair to adhere the other half to it. This ensures the two circles line up properly when you close the case.
