Graduation Gift Ideas For Women

Give the new graduate a book she can use in her new life.

Graduation is a time for reflection and celebration. If you know a woman who is graduating soon, help mark the occasion by giving her a gift that has been chosen especially for her. To choose the perfect gift, think about the recipient's tastes and aspirations. Select something that is pertinent to her field of study, or that will be useful to her in the years ahead as she pursues more schooling or begins her career.

Travel Gifts

Many recent graduates take some time off to travel, so give a gift that will make it easier. New luggage is a classic graduation present -- choose good quality, durable pieces that conform to air travel specifications. A sturdy backpack and hiking accessories such as a lightweight tent and sleeping bag make a welcome gift for a nature lover. You can also provide the trip itself; send her on a cruise or a European tour. Many bus and train lines offer special travel passes that allow the holder to ride as often and as far as she likes in a certain period of time.

Household Gifts

The graduate may be moving out of a dorm room or from her childhood home into a place of her own. Help her out a little by supplying new cardboard boxes (sold at moving supply and discount stores) and several rolls of packing tape. Help her out a lot by paying for a moving company to do the packing, transportation and unpacking. You can also buy her a few of the things she'll need to get set up in her new home: fill a bucket with dish soap, sponges, window cleaner, scrub brushes and other cleaning products, or give her a set of nonstick cookware.

Professional Gifts

If she is just starting out in her career, give her something that will enhance her professional life. A white-collar woman might like a new leather briefcase or shoulder tote; have it embossed with her initials for a personal touch. Give a professional an item that is useful in her new life, such as a first-class stethoscope for a medical intern or a drawing table for an engineer. Consider the gift of a gym membership, as well; now that she is no longer in school, she may find it more difficult to work exercise into her busy day.
