Restrictions For Luggage On Frontier Airlines

Make sure you luggage is the right size before bringing it on an airplane.

Frontier Airlines offers different options for transporting luggage on flights. Restrictions apply to both items that you carry on and check in. In some cases, additional fees may apply to certain items.

Carry-on Items

Each passenger is allowed one carry-on item and one personal item. Personal items include purses, briefcases or laptop computers. Make sure your carry-on item does not exceed 9 1/2 inches high, 15 1/2 inches wide and 24 inches long or weigh more than 35 pounds. Otherwise, you will have to check in the item at the airport. The following items may be carried on the plane, but restrictions will apply: Baby items such as diaper bags, strollers, and car seats are allowed in the cabin of the plane. Sporting good items including skateboards; wake boards; bowling equipment; fishing bags that contain rods, reels, nets and boots; and smaller musical instruments are all allowable.

Check-in Items

When purchasing a ticket with Frontier, passengers choose which type of travel and amenities they want through the "AirFares" program. The following fees apply as of May 2010 on checked items. On domestic flights with purchased economy tickets, the first bag is $20, the second bag is $30 and the third is $50. The first two bags are free with Classic, Summit, Ascent and AirTran A+Elite tickets; it is $50 for the third bag. On international flights, the first two bags are free for all ticket purchases, with a $50 fee applied to the third and fourth bags.

The fees will apply for any checked item that does not exceed 60 inches (length plus width plus height) and is less than 50 pounds. Bags can be checked in up to four hours before a flight departs.

Restricted Check-In Items

The following items can be checked with certain restrictions. Firearms such as handguns, shotguns and compressed air guns are allowed. Ammunition that is in the manufacturer's original container and does not weigh more than 11 pounds is also allowed. Hunting equipment, including bows and arrows that are packaged safely in a bag; antlers that are free of residue and whose points are covered; and camping equipment such as tents, backpacks, and sleeping bags may be checked in. Irritant substances such as pepper spray, bear spray and mace are permitted as long as they are in a locked 4-oz. bottle or smaller.

Alcohol and Drug Items

Alcohol may be carried on that meets Transportation Security Administration guidelines or that has been purchased on the concourse after security checkpoints. Other liquor that is sealed in retail packaging and does not exceed 70 percent alcohol must be checked. Medical devices such as syringes, needles and prescription medication are acceptable items in specific cases. Portable oxygen may accompany passengers on board, as well as sleep apnea machines with empty canisters and regulator valves removed. Ventilators and respirators are also acceptable items, however electrical power is not available on the aircraft, so battery accommodations will have to be made.

Prohibited Items

Any type of paint items including water, oil, gel, aerosol, spray, flammable and non-flammable paint is not accepted anywhere on the plane. Turpentine and paint thinners are both prohibited. Self-heating meals and drinks, along with oxygen generators and Segway transporters are banned from incoming and outgoing flights.
