US Airways puts forth several rules regarding carry-on luggage.
As times change and air travel regulations become more stringent, airlines adjust their policies for carry-on luggage. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) sets many of the general regulations regarding carry-on items, and it us up to the discretion of each airline to establish further policies. US Airways sets forth several relatively straightforward rules for carry-on luggage.
Carry-On Bags and Personal Items
US Airways passengers are allowed to bring one carry-on bag and one personal item on each flight. A personal item may include a purse, briefcase or laptop computer bag. Pets traveling in the airplane cabin count as one of your carry-on items on US Airways.
Size Limits
Carry-on bags may not exceed 40 lbs. (18 kg) in weight. They also cannot exceed 14 by 9 by 22 inches (36 by 23 by 56 cm). Items that exceed any of these dimensions are too large to be carried on US Airways flights and must be checked.
Prohibited Items
US Airways enforces FAA regulations regarding items that are not permitted in carry-on luggage. Prohibited items include sharp objects such as box cutters and knives; sporting goods such as baseball bats and hockey sticks; guns, firearms and ammunition; tools such as hammers and axes; self defense items such as pepper spray and stun guns; any explosive or flammable material such as fireworks, gasoline, paint thinner or lighter fluid; and liquids measuring over 3.4 oz. (100 mL) per container.
Permitted Items
Some items that would otherwise be banned from carry-on luggage are allowed on US Airways if they adhere to FAA size specifications. This includes scissors with blades less than 4 inches in length, tools (such as wrenches or pliers) less than 7 inches in length, common lighters not containing fuel and liquids measuring less than 3.4 oz. (100 mL) per container. The number of containers may be restricted by current FAA regulations.
Animals
US Airways allows domestic dogs, cats, birds and tropical fish in the passenger cabin for nontransatlantic flights. The pet's carry-on kennel must be able to fit under the seat and must measure no more than 21 by 16 by 10 inches (54 by 41 by 25 cm). The combined weight of the animal and the kennel cannot exceed 70 lbs. (32 kg). Per Department of Transportation regulations, service animals are always allowed on domestic flights.
