Ideas For Children'S Valentine'S Boxes

When children exchange Valentines, they need somewhere to put all the cards. A Valentines box can be made out of things you already have around your house, like a shoe box, or something you would otherwise throw away, like a cereal box. Simple construction paper gives the kids the chance to decorate their individual boxes.

Shoe Box

Take and old shoe box and make it a place to put all your Valentines. Choose a color of paper and wrap the whole box in it. Use construction paper so that the child can draw or color on it. Add stamped designs or colorful stickers if you have them. Cut a slit in the top where people can slip the Valentines in.

Butterfly Box

Take a cereal box and wrap it in pink or purple construction paper. Then cut out wings to glue to the back of the box. Use crayons and markers to draw on the features of the butterfly. Tear off the top of the box, or just cut a slit in it, for a place to put the Valentines. Boys can make it too if you alter the design by making it as a dragonfly instead of a butterfly.

Briefcase

Make a Valentines briefcase so people can carry around the Valentines easily. Lay a cereal box on its side and take a strip of construction paper. Wrap the cereal box in white or brown paper. Then take a strip of construction paper and glue the ends to the top (side) of the briefcase. This is what kids will carry the box around by. Then use the same color of construction paper and make decorative strips that go around the box to make it look even more like a briefcase.

Coffee Can

An old coffee can makes a very simple and easy Valentines container. Take a coffee can and cover it with festive wrapping paper. Then slit a hole in the top of the can lid for the Valentines. For your child to decorate the can, you can wrap it in plain white paper and set out crayons, markers and stamps so that she can create it to look any way she wants. She can decorate the lid as well.
