Barbados Airport Security Regulations

Ensure a smooth and safe trip to the Barbados by following simple airport security measures.

Barbados is an island located in the Atlantic Ocean. The island is about 21 miles in length and 14 miles wide. The island features a tropical climate, and its currency is the Barbadian dollar. Vacationers visiting Barbados can enjoy dozens of outdoor attractions, including swimming, tanning, scuba diving, parasailing, boating, fishing and more. If you are planning a vacation to Barbados, be sure to follow the island's strict airport security regulations to ensure a smooth and comfortable trip.

What to Pack

To ensure a smooth flight to Barbados, pack carefully and follow standard airline procedures. Avoid wearing any items that might set off metal detectors, including steel-toed boots, bulky belt buckles or heavy jewelry. If you have metal surgical implants, bring a note from a doctor to avoid meeting with airport security officials. In addition, be sure to pack the number of your airline carrier, as well as any doctors, should you have an emergency. Remember that you must remove all electronics, including cameras, cell phones, video recorders and computers from carry-on luggage before boarding so airport officials can scan them, so keep these items in an easily accessible place.

Standard Airport Regulations

Airports in Barbados follow standard airport security procedures. When traveling to Barbados, be sure to pack a government-issued photo ID for security clearance. Passengers must also have their plane ticket or boarding pass in their name. Passengers who wish to carry on their luggage can bring one carry-on suitcase and one personal item, including a briefcase or purse. Passengers with carry-on luggage should ensure their bag fits the standard carry-on size, about 45 linear inches (the total height, width and depth of the bag). Passengers who wish to check their luggage should arrive at the airport at least 45 minutes before their scheduled departure to ensure airport personnel can transport their luggage to the plane on time.

Additional Procedures

Travelers visiting the Barbados from the United States, Canada or the United Kingdom do not a visa, so long as they are staying in Barbados for three months or less. Due to the increase in terrorist activity, many airports in and around Barbados now feature enhanced security measures. Passengers may be segregated from their group and scanned using hand-held scanning devices, or they may be interviewed by airport security officials. In addition, passengers' bags may be subject to additional scrutiny, including bag searches and X-ray scanners. For any additional questions concerning travel or security regulations, contact the Transportation Security Administration at (866) 289-9673.
