Get Ballpoint Pen Off Of Nylon

Pens leak onto items occasionally.

Ink stains from a ballpoint pen result when you accidentally drop a pen, when you brush it up against an item or when the ballpoint pen leaks. When the fabric is nylon, often the item is not machine-washable, such as tote bags, purses or umbrellas. Home remedies such as hair spray can leave a gummy residue or a fragrance on the item that is just as difficult to remove as the original ink stain. Getting rid of the stain is possible if you have the proper stain treatment available. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Dry Cleaning Solvent

1. Dampen a cleaning cloth with a small amount of dry cleaning solvent. The solvent may be purchased at discount, fabric or dry cleaning stores.

2. Rub the fabric with the solvent in an inconspicuous area to make sure that it does not damage the fabric. Allow it to dry -- it should only take a minute or two. Rub the ink stain in a circular motion with a cloth until the ink is gone.

3. Wash the item immediately if it is machine-washable. Dry it according to the care label instructions. If it is not washable, rinse the area with a cloth dipped in water and allow the area to dry.

Regular Rubbing Alcohol

4. Stick a cotton swab or the edge of a cleaning cloth into the rubbing alcohol.

5. Test the nylon fabric in an inconspicuous area to make sure that the alcohol does not damage the fabric. Allow it to dry -- it only takes a few seconds. Rub the ink stain with the cloth or cotton swab in a circular motion until all the ink is gone.

6. Clean the fabric in the washing machine if it is washable. Dry it according to the care label. If not, rinse the area with a cloth dipped in water.
