Protect your luggage with a combination lock
Luggage combination locks are useful for keeping your belongings safe when you are not with your luggage. Since different combination lock brands may vary, it is best to check the instruction manual for your particular combination lock; however, most combination locks work in similar ways. You will need the lock's original combination to follow these simple steps for the two most basic combination locks and begin protecting your luggage.
Instructions
Combination Lock With Four Separate Number Wheels
1. Line up the individual locks on the dial to the preset combination that came with your lock. If you are unsure of the preset combination, try lining up the numbers to "0," as this is a typical preset factory combination code. This will reset the lock.
2. Pull the shackle -- the rounded metal part of the lock -- up when it clicks open. Turn it 90 degrees and push it down firmly.
3. Set your new combination. In order to do this, make sure all the numbers are aligned. Remember to pick a number that you will remember but that others will not guess. You may consider writing it down in a safe place. Do not release the shackle until the new combination has been set.
4. Release the shackle when the new combination is set by pulling it up and returning it back to its locked position. The shackle will not lock until you scramble the numbers.
Combination Lock With One Master Number Wheel
5. Obtain the preset combination code from the packaging or instruction sheets. This will be the lock you use for opening this sort of combination. Some have a reset tool if you wish to reset the lock.
6. Turn the dial three times to the right and stop on the first number of the combination.
7. Spin the dial to the left and pass the first number in the combination. Stop on the second number.
8. Turn the dial back to the right, stopping on the final number in the combination.
9. Pull up the shackle to unlock the lock.
