Sheet metal is metal formed into a flat piece, just as its name suggests. It comes in various sizes and is used for countless applications such as ductwork, tubing signs and on car parts. For applications requiring it, sheet metal can be glued together to form a thicker piece. Gluing sheet metal together is easy and can be completed in minutes. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Lay the two sheets you will be gluing together on a flat surface and pour acetone onto a clean rag. Rub the rag over the entire surface of the two sides of sheet metal you will be gluing together. Scrub thoroughly and remove all grease and other grime from the sheet metal.
2. Wipe the sheets down with a damp rag, removing all excess acetone and any remaining dirt from the surface. Dry the sheet metal with a clean rag.
3. Spread epoxy glue on top of the sheet metal. Squirt a bead down the center and one on each side three inches from the edge. The epoxy will spread out on its own when the pieces are pushed together so three beads are all that is necessary. Repeat the process for the other piece of sheet metal.
4. Set one piece of sheet metal on the other and line them up so they are even. Push down firmly to ensure a firm bond. Run your hands over the entire surface.
5. Wipe off with a clean rag any excess glue that has squirted out.
