Leather Luster Instructions

Shiny leather shoes add to a well-groomed image.

Nothing completes a business outfit like clean, cared-for shoes, but over time, leather shoes may lose their shine and become dull and scuffed. A deep, glossy shine can be restored to leather shoes with Leather Luster, a product that is used by military personnel, law enforcement officers and by fire and rescue services. Leather Luster also shines belts, briefcases and any other articles made from natural leather. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Remove all traces of dye, oil or wax from the leather item to be polished. Scrub thoroughly until the cloth comes up clean, with no trace of dye on the cloth. It may take more than one can of Leather Luster pre-cleaner to get the leather clean. Terry cotton cloths work well. Once clean, allow the leather to dry completely for 10 minutes.

2. Apply Leather Luster sparingly to the leather item and place in direct sunlight, if possible, to dry. Drying may take four to six hours, and at this stage the luster will not have a shine.

3. Apply a second coat once the first coat is dry. It is important that the first coat of Leather Luster is completely dry without any trace of tackiness. If some areas will not dry, it means that those areas were not cleaned properly to remove all oils from the leather Re-clean the sticky areas with pre-cleaner, allow to dry again, then reapply Leather Luster, and set to dry.

4. Buff the leather with steel wool once both coats of Leather Luster have dried completely. Continue to buff until a smooth surface is achieved.

5. Clean all traces of steel wool from the surface of the leather, then apply a final coat of Leather Luster. If bubbles appear, gently blowing on them should remove them. As many coats as are needed may be applied to leather until the desired depth of shine is present, but let each one dry thoroughly.
