With so many choices, choosing a new leather purse can be exciting and difficult.
A new leather purse adds long-lasting pizazz to your wardrobe, bringing style, durability and versatility to casual and dress wear, from season to season. Some people like the smell of new leather, but if you're not one of them, carrying around your new leather purse may be a less-than-pleasant experience. Although the leather smell, which comes from the leather tanning process, eventually dissipates on its own, a few simple procedures and supplies help you speed up the process to make your new leather purse smell better. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Situate your new leather purse in the bottom of a large plastic bag. Open the purse so you can access the inside as well as the outside.
2. Newspaper is an effective odor-absorber.
Crumple up old newspaper and fill the inside loosely with it. Place crumpled up balls of newspaper around the exterior of the leather purse as well.
3. Vanilla removes leather smell and leaves a pleasant fragrance behind.
Place three drops of vanilla extract on each of two cotton balls. Put one cotton ball inside the leather purse and the other amidst the newspaper on the outside. Close the plastic bag around the leather purse and leave it sealed in the bag for one week to deodorize the purse and get rid of the leather smell.
4. Open the plastic bag. Discard the crumpled newspaper and cotton balls. Remove the purse from the plastic bag and discard the plastic bag, too.
5. Pour a quarter-sized amount of a leather cleaner and conditioner combination onto a clean cloth. Wipe down the leather on the outside of the purse, as well as any interior leather trim, to remove any remaining new leather smell. Allow the purse to sit for a few hours while the cleaner and conditioner is absorbed into the leather.
