Clean A Canvas Purse

Whether you are carrying it to the beach or to the office every day, regularly cleaning your canvas bag is the best way to keep it looking new and fresh year after year. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

Clean a Canvas Purse

1. Set up a workspace on your kitchen counter or dining room table. Lay down an old towel or dish rag, and place the canvas purse on the towel. Keep a bowel or tub of water and a bowel of baking soda handy. If the bag is all-cotton canvas, hand wash with a gentle fabric wash, such as Woolite. OxyClean spray foam, Resolve or anything that cleans upholstery. Definitely test the product you're using in a place on the purse no one can see before cleaning the whole bag.

2. Using water and baking soda is another option. Warm water and baking soda work well for most canvas, but if you use too much baking soda you might end up with some stuck in your fabric. To avoid this, use a small amount of baking soda, mixing it with water to make a fine paste. Hand wash the canvas bag with the baking soda and water solution and rinse with water.

3. Stuff the canvas purse with acid-free tissue paper so it retains its shape once the cleaning products have been applied to the canvas and rinsed off.

4. Let the purse air dry for at least a day at room temperature after the acid-free tissue paper has been inserted into the canvas. Any wrinkles will disappear with use. Do not steam or iron.

5. Remove the tissue paper and carry your clean bag with pride.
