You can find journals in different shapes and sizes. For your interior designer, consider buying a journal with unlined pages so he can easily sketch and scribble down notes.
Subscription
Although your designer friend probably has plenty of design inspirations already, she could never have too many design magazines. Find out to which publications she subscribes, then choose one she does not receive as a gift. Look for foreign magazines of the same type to kindle her curiosity about different design philosophies. MP3 Recorder
Fleeting ideas are easier to catch if you have an MP3 recorder handy. Quite different from a normal journal, this ensures an interior designer can capture a thought without editing it. Portfolio Bag
An interior designer usually lugs around his portfolio almost everywhere he goes, so give him a portfolio bag to match. These bags have square, sturdy frames and are well-designed to protect artwork and portfolio material. Get a classic black or gray bag so you won't have to worry about what would fit his style. Choose a bag that has adjustable straps for a long commute (i.e., body bag) or a brisk walk (i.e., briefcase-type). Leather portfolio bags also are excellent choices.
