Grad Gifts For Men

Put some thought into a gift for a young man who's graduating.

He worked hard to earn his diploma. Now honor the man who's graduating with a special gift. Don't just go with a gift card or a check. Put some thought into a present for this important milestone. Consider the graduate's needs and wishes to come up with the perfect grad gift for your young man.

Professional Gifts

The new graduate is ready to job hunt and start a career. Help him look the part with gifts of professional clothes and accessories. A monogrammed dress shirt is an elegant complement to a business suit. Order a shirt in a conservative color, such as white or light blue, and get the grad's monogram embroidered on the cuff or pocket in navy blue. The young professional will also look sharp with monogrammed gold or silver cuff links or a nice new watch. Leather accessories are a great finishing touch, such as a portfolio or briefcase. Add the graduate's monogram to these as well.

Gadget Gifts

A new graduate needs tools to navigate the brave new world. Get him started with the latest and greatest gadgets on the market, such as a new laptop, an upgraded cell phone or an iPad and a nice carrying case. All of these gadgets require additional funds for monthly service charges, so be prepared to pay them or make sure the graduate will be able to. An electronic reader is a great gift for grads who like to read. The Nook from Barnes and Noble starts at $149 and allows readers to download newspapers, magazines and books. Include a gift card so the grad will be able to pay for the materials he wants to download.

Travel Gifts

The graduate is ready to take on the world, and he'd probably like to see it, too. Get him started with the gift of travel and an all-expenses-paid vacation for two. Speak to a travel agent to book flights and a stay at an all-inclusive resort. Make sure to ask the travel agent which destinations and cruises are popular with travelers in their early 20s, so your graduate will be surrounded by people his own age. Be prepared to spend a few thousand dollars for this type of present.

What a Guy Wants

Graduates want the finer things in life, and at their young age, that means wheels and a fabulous TV. Get your grad a new or used car to give him the freedom and mobility he craves. The car doesn't have to be the best on the road. The grad may not be picky as long as the auto is in fairly good condition and will get him from here to there. TVs are a different story, however. Guys like their screens large, so get your graduate a flat screen TV that's at least 50 inches or more. Be prepared to pay at least $600.
