Law Student Gifts

Gifts for law students include anything useful or relaxing.

Law school is a three-year library sentence of book reading and paper writing, during which time gifts and care packages of any sort are welcomed. Anecdotal books concerning lawyers and legal dictionaries are popular gift items for law students. However, instead of giving them yet more books to strain their eyesight, consider gifting useful items for a law student, or something that can help with stress and relaxation.

Briefcase

A leather briefcase is the quintessential gift for a law student. It represents their transition from a backpack full of books to a professional case-carrying professional. Legal briefcases can be found either in black or brown and should come with both a hand and shoulder straps. If you know of someone who is already gifting a briefcase to the same law student, buy a matching wallet or date planner in the same leather type to match it.

Clothing

The legal world is a uniform world, lawyers wear suits, ties, collard shirts and leather shoes. As a token to the law student who will soon enter the legal world, take them shopping for a brand new court outfit or surprise them with a designer look. If buying for them rather than shopping with them, make sure to know their size exactly or leave the pieces untailored so that the recipient can have it fitted. Items such as ties, watches, dress shirts, stockings and jewelry can be given as is.

Electronics

As with many occupations in the digital world, lawyers, legal aids and law students greatly benefit from electronic devices that help make life easier. Electronic book readers such as the Amazon Kindle can help to reduce the massive weight of books lugged around each day. A smart phone with email and Internet is also an extremely useful item for a lawyer or law student who needs immediate access to information. If you know the recipient well, items such as a new laptop or Apple iPod for easier studying are as high-end as it gets.

Desk Items

You can never go wrong with gifting classic desk items to a law student or new attorney. Classy paperweights are always needed for a desk covered in legal briefs and a good quality set of book ends to house the library of collected books over the three years of law school is always welcomed. Other ideas include personalized stationary, a fancy or personalized pen and a wooden gavel to display at the front of the desk.

Relaxations Items

Relaxation items are among the top welcomed and most forgotten gifts for law students. Graduate school is stressful, particularly for lawyers who are hunched over books all day in the library and pouring over case files at the kitchen table. Items that can help your law student relax and unwind include stress balls, massage pillows, foot massagers, neck massagers, scented candles, herbal teas, bath oils, a yoga book, instruction DVD or mat and even gift certificates to a day spa or massage therapist.
