Turn a heart shape into a Valentine's mouse.
Mice have become a popular theme for holiday crafting. Valentines can be easily made from heart shapes, whether paper, foods or other materials. Children can make memorable mouse Valentine for adults and vice versa. A hand-crafted mouse Valentine can be made even more special by including a poem or hand-written message for the recipient.
Pop-up Mouse Valentine
Cut a half-heart shape along the fold line of folded construction paper. Make the half-heart no bigger than four inches wide and nine inches long. Use the fold line as the bottom of a mouse. Glue a craft eye and some yarn whiskers at the pointed end of the folded heart to make a mouse face. Glue some strands of yarn at the bottom of the rounded end for a mouse's tail.
Open the heart mouse to a full heart shape. Cut some small folded hearts and make mice as in the above instructions. Fold a one-half by four-inch strip accordion style for each smaller mouse. Glue one end of the folded strip to the inside bottom portion of the large mouse. Glue a smaller mouse to the other end of each accordion-folded strip. Write a message inside the larger folded heart, if desired. When the glue is dry, re-fold the large mouse Valentine and put it inside a business-sized envelope (9 1/2 by 4 inches) for mailing or giving.
Cinnamon Heart Mouse Treats
Decorate heart-shaped cinnamon gumdrop candies to look like mice. Use decorator frosting in a tube to place drops of frosting for ears, eyes and a nose. Draw lines with the frosting to make whiskers on the mouse. Place several mice faces in a plastic berry basket that is lined with clean shredded paper to look like a mouse's nest. Wrap the Valentine gift in clear cellophane wrap to keep the candies fresh.
Lollipop Valentine for a Group
Use a hole punch to make holes in several places in a sturdy paper or plastic plate. Make enough holes to provide a special treat for every child if this is a classroom Valentine. The holes can be positioned where the ears, eyes, nose, and whiskers would be on a mouse's face. Holes can also be punched around the bare edges of the plate to accommodate for enough people in a group. Push the stick of a heart-shaped lollipop through each hole from the front. Tape the stick at the back to hold in place. The lollipops will become the ears, eyes, noise, mouth, and whiskers. Use the Valentine for a centerpiece at a party or give it to a family as a Valentine's treat.
Stick-up Valentine Mice
Use a heart-shaped sticky notepad to make several mice faces for classroom or family Valentines. Draw mouse features on each of of the hearts you plan to use. Stick a mouse face onto the desk of each student, on the doors of your children, inside the car or inside a parent's briefcase.
