The Best Traveling Careers

Many people enjoy a job that includes traveling because it allows them to see new cities, try new cuisine and visit landmarks around the country and around the world. People who travel for their job often spend a lot of time away from family and friends, but often get an expense account and get to enjoy time away from home on the company's dime.

Sales

Sales professionals travel both close and far away from their sales territory to sell their products. Sales people who sell on their "routes" travel within a certain radius of their home-base talking to clients, meeting people and making new sales. Sales professionals also travel to conferences for conventions, regional sales meetings, training sessions and leadership conferences. Sales people spend a lot of time working out of a briefcase, in hotel rooms and out of their car, but typically always get to see new places. In many cases they get an expense account to entertain clients with food and entertainment at some of the best places in town.

Airline

People who work in the airline industry travel on airplanes on a constant basis working as pilots and flight attendants. Airline employees constantly fly to new cities all over the globe and stay at some of the top hotels, all paid for by the airline. Free air travel is a big perk of those working for the airlines. Employees receive free air travel for them and their immediate family for life. Travelers who double as airline employees will often fly standby and on empty flights.

Performing Arts

People working in the performing arts as actors, singers, dancers, musicians, directors and anyone involved in a traveling stage show travel from city to city for a long duration of time as part of a tour or one-time event. Performers get to cities both small and large where they often stay for several days depending on the duration of the show and the number of tickets sold. Sometimes as part of goodwill and publicity efforts, performers will visit local schools to create excitement for their visit. Depending on the type of show (and size of the production), crews travel on airplanes or on tour busses.

Journalists

Journalists travel locally, regionally, nationally and globally to cover assignments and work as reporters, producers and photographers. They travel to stories which sometimes involve natural disasters and war zones; they also travel to destinations where big events happen. Because of the conditions, sometimes journalists stay in nice hotels; however sometimes because of their story location, journalists' accommodations' are less than adequate and similar to camping. Regardless of location, journalists witness many historical events.
