Make Your Own Gift Certificate Paper Crafts

Homemade gift certificate booklets are a heartfelt and frugal gift.

Giving personal time and attention as a gift for a special occasion or birthday is priceless, but can pose problems because it leaves the gift recipient with nothing to unwrap. One way to satisfy both needs is to create a book of homemade gift certificates, which can be exchanged for favors or special treats. Making a book of gift certificates to present to a loved one is an easy and inexpensive way to give a gift.

Instructions

1. Decide how many favors you would like to give your recipient, and write them down. Make sure that the favors or tasks you are giving are things that your recipient will enjoy. Good examples of tasks or favors might be mowing the lawn, giving a back rub, making dinner, walking the dog, or allowing your friend or family member to make the selection for a movie night.

2. Place one sheet of paper in front of you on a table, with the shorter side of the paper closest to you. Divide the paper into thirds, from top to bottom, and make a small mark to divide up the sections. Fold the paper on those lines, folding toward the middle each time.

3. Cut the paper on the creases you have created. Each of the three pieces of paper will be one gift certificate. Cut one gift certificate for each favor you would like to include in the gift certificate packet, plus two more pieces of paper the same size, for the covers of the packet.

4. Write the favor or gift in the center of the certificate with colored pencils, mimicking the language of a real gift certificate. For instance, if you would like to give a foot massage, write "This gift certificate is good for one 10 minute foot massage". Once you have written the gift being given, decorate the rest of the certificate with pictures, and create a border along the edges of the paper. Repeat this step for each gift being given.

5. Create a cover for the gift certificate packet by writing "coupon booklet" on one slip of paper and decorating it with pictures. You can also decorate the back cover, if you like.

6. Arrange the slips of paper so that the edges meet up, put the cover slip on top, and put the blank back cover slip on the bottom. Staple the slips of paper together along the left edge, with two vertical staples. Trim around the edges so that the coupons are all roughly the same size.
