Clean A Suede Bag

Suede is an appealing, luxurious material . And if you happen to own a suede handbag, no doubt you are gambling with everyday wear-and-tear in addition to inclement weather (even a little exposure to rain can alter its appearance) and the endless possibilities of ink, wine and coffee stains. While a suede handbag can be a high-maintenance item, with regular, proper care, you can extend the life and the look of your bag! Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Rub the suede with a clean, dry towel. Do not rub too hard but rigorously enough to ensure that any surface marks come out. That said, if there are any stains that have "set" in, avoid these areas.

2. Use a suede brush. You can find these in leather specialty stores and online. Try to find one with an equal number of soft (mine is horsehair) and plastic/metal bristles (mine is plastic) and in a size and shape that complements your bag.

3. When you have thoroughly brushed your bag, dab a few drops of white vinegar directly on any stains that you see, and using the dry cloth, gently scrub until the stains fade. You should then let the bag air-dry.

4. Above all, maintenance is key; you should take your bag every couple of years to a professional, reputable cleaner. The quality and amount of suede varies, depending on your bag, but be sure to ask the cleaner if you can use a protective spray on your bag. This would help safeguard against stains.
