Install Throw Over
Saddle Bags
Throw over saddle bags are a type of storage for motorcycles. The bags allow the rider to store his gear on either side of the motorcycle. They are usually made of black leather to match motorcycle clothing, but they can be made of any type of fabric. The saddle bags not only help balance the bike, but they provide plenty of storage space during trips. You can make or purchase throw over saddle bags for motorcycles, and they are fairly easy to install.
Instructions
1. Use a screwdriver to remove the screws securing the motorcycle seat to the frame. Slide the seat forward then backward to remove the keyhole and rear tank brackets. A single screwdriver should be sufficient to remove the seat, depending on the bike model.
2. Untie the yoke, which is usually held together with leather or nylon strips. The yoke is the part of the saddle bags that goes under the seat.
3. Place each saddle bag where you want them to sit on your bike. The yoke lays under the seat, with a saddle bag on each side of the bike. The best location is usually over the shocks.
4. Mark where the yoke is positioned over the hardware on the bike and where it overlaps, using a permanent marker.
5. Remove the saddle bags. Lay them flat on the ground and place the yoke over an object, such as an old phone book. Make sure the marks you made line up with each other and that the pre-made holes line up. If they do not, drill holes through the yoke and tie them together with a strip of leather taken from the yoke. You are basically re-threading the yoke's ties.
6. Place the saddle bags back on your bike and position them.
7. Reinstall the motorcycle seat by replacing the screws.
8. Examine the saddle bags to make sure they are not resting on anything that may become entangled with them.
