Emirates Airlines Baggage Rules
Few things can be more frustrating to a traveller than arriving at the airport only to be delayed or, worse, have to abandon some expensive item of luggage in order to comply with the baggage policies of your airline. For this reason, it's important to research an airline's baggage policies before you pack your luggage.
Checked Baggage Weight
The baggage allowance for Emirates Airlines varies depending on the locations on your itinerary and your class of tickets. For most locations, economy class customers are permitted 30 kilograms (66 pounds) of checked baggage, business class travelers are permitted 40 kilograms (88 pounds), and first class travelers are permitted 50 kilograms (110 pounds). However, travelers who are making stops in the U.S., Canada or Brazil will have different weight allowances that vary depending on route. Travelers with infant children are permitted to bring an additional piece of checked in baggage.
Carry-on Baggage
Passengers are permitted a single piece of carry-on baggage weighing no more than 7 kilograms (15.4 pounds) for economy class. Passengers in business or first class may bring two pieces of carry-on baggage, provided their combined weight does not exceed 12 kilograms (26.4 pounds). The maximum size of carry-on baggage is 22 x 15 x 8 inches for handbags and 18 x 14 x 8 inches for briefcases. For passengers boarding in India, the sum of the luggage's height, width and depth cannot exceed 45.3 inches. Travelers with infant children are also permitted to bring a collapsible stroller into the cabin.
Liquor, Cigarettes and Perfume
Emirates Airlines permits passengers to carry alcohol, cigarettes and similar duty free products on board the aircraft. However, the airline warns passengers that liquid restrictions in place at various airports, including Dubai International, may result in these items being confiscated at security check points.
Sports Equipment and Musical Instruments
Travelers in all classes are permitted to check in a single set of golf clubs and golf shoes free of charge on an Emirates flight. Other sports equipment are subject to the standard baggage guidelines. However, special restrictions may exist for equipment that can also be classified as dangerous materials, including SCUBA equipment and sporting weapons.
Musical instruments may be transported as checked or carry-on baggage but are subject to the same size and weight limitations as other baggage. Additionally, customers may purchase an adjacent seat for the transportation of instruments that exceed carry-on limitations.
