Southwest Airlines Carryon Bag Size

Southwest Airlines allows you one carry-on bag and one personal item, such as a briefcase.

While the Transport Security Administration (TSA) provides national regulations in the U.S. for carry-on bags, each airline has their own rules for size, rate and quantity. Southwest Airlines operates domestic flights within the United States.

Quantity

On Southwest Airlines, each passenger is allowed one carry-on bag and one personal item. Personal items may include a laptop, handbag, briefcase, camera bag or shopping bag from the terminal.

Size

When flying Southwest Airlines, carry-on bags must measure 10 x 16 x 24 inches or less. Southwest provides a guide at the ticket counter and boarding gate to measure your carry-on bag before getting on the plane. If your carry-on bag does not meet the size requirements, you must check it.

Oversized Items

Musical instruments, child strollers and safety seats over the maximum carry-on size must be checked. Large musical instrument can be brought into the cabin providing you purchase an extra seat for it.
