Make A Briefcase Craft

Making a cardboard briefcase is a great family craft project.

A simple briefcase is easy to make using a cardboard box and standard craft supplies. Children can store art supplies, blocks or dress up clothes in their homemade briefcases, while adults can use them as fun room d cor. This craft is simple enough that everyone in the family can join in.

Instructions

1. Using the ruler, measure three inches up from the bottom of the box. Trace around the outside of the box, along the three-inch line. Do the same with the top of the box, measuring three inches down from the top and tracing a line all the way around the outside. Using the box cutter, cut neatly along these two lines to create the top and bottom shell casing of your briefcase.

2. Place the bottom and top briefcase shell pieces together, so that they resemble a briefcase. When you lift the top piece, it should open up as a standard briefcase does. Secure the backside where the two shell pieces meet, which will be the bottom of the briefcase, with packing tape.

3. Decorate the briefcase with paper or embellishments to your liking.

4. Stand the briefcase up as if you are holding it by handles. Measure the length of the top lid and mark the center with a pencil. Mark the mirror image spot on the bottom lid. Using the hole punch, punch a hole in each side of the lid on the center spot. This is where the ribbon or cord will go through to hold the briefcase closed.

5. To create the handles, cut two pieces of ribbon or cord 6" long, and a third piece of cord long enough to go through the holes in the lid and tie them closed.

6. Using the ruler, measure two inches on each side of the punched holes, and mark the areas with a pencil. To create the handles, staple one side of the 6" ribbon on one side of the hole and the other side of the ribbon on the other side. Do this again with the second 6" ribbon to create an identical handle on the other side of the briefcase lid. Thread the third piece of cord or ribbon through the holes to hold the briefcase shut. Tie the ends in a pretty bow.
