Ream Out Residue From Toilet Bowl Rim Ports

Sometimes the ports under the rim of the toilet can become clogged with residue. This can cause the toilet not to flush waste properly. Before calling a plumber or replacing a toilet that is having problems flushing properly, you can try reaming the rim ports. There are several ways to ream out the rim ports, and one of them should do the trick.

Instructions

1. Insert the straw of the can of compressed air into the ports one by one and give them a good blast of the air. This may need to be repeated several times to blow out any debris that is in the ports.

2. Insert a small bottle brush into the rim ports, and work the brush in and out as the toilet is flushed. If the water flows through the ports as the bottle brush is being worked in and out, it can release the debris that is clogging the ports.

3. Cut a piece of plastic line from a weed eater about 6 inches long. Insert the weed eater line into the ports as you flush the toilet. Work the line in and out, and turn it until the blockage comes out.
