A quick, practical project, crochet net scrubbies are inexpensive to make and a good project for a beginner. A mistake or two does not show because of the texture of the netting used and will not affect the usefulness of the finished product. The completed scrubbies are an excellent cleaning tool for dishes, floors and many other surfaces because of their scratchy yet non-abrasive surface.
Instructions
1. Prepare the netting for use. The material comes pre-folded on the bolt; leave it folded while preparing for use. Measure up five inches from one end of the length of netting and fold over lengthwise.
2. Continue rolling until the whole length is in the roll. Ensure that the edges remain even during the rolling process.
3. Clip some spring clothespins on the folded and salvage ends of the netting. This will keep it from slipping and becoming unfolded during the cutting portion of the preparation.
4. Use a pair of sharp scissors to trim off the folded edge. Cut the rolled netting into two-inch strips.
5. Tie the individual strips together. This will create one long piece of netting which you will use to crochet the scrubbie.
6. Chain four stitches loosely and join in the first chain to make a ring. Chain three stitches and double crochet 13 more stitches in the ring for a total of 14 stitches. Slip stitch to join together.
7. Chain three stitches and then make one double crochet in the same stitch. Double crochet two in each of the remaining stitches for a total of 28 stitches and then slipstitch to join together.
8. Chain three stitches, skip one stitch and then double crochet one in every other stitch for a total of 14 stitches. Slip stitch to join.
9. Reverse the scrubbie, as it will begin to curl, and crochet from the other side. Chain three, skip one stitch and double crochet one in every other stitch. If there is a small amount of netting remaining, tuck it into the center of the scrubbie.
Tips Warnings
When choosing netting for this project, pick higher-grade netting. It is softer and not as hard on your hands to work with as cheaper, coarser fabric.
