Reid beds are not difficult to put together.
Reid Classics is a furniture company that has been making reproduction beds since 1938. Reid manufactures Colonial American and Victorian style beds. Reid Classics makes their beds with mahogany, but you can order custom designs in cherry, walnut and maple finishes. Most of the beds are four posters and some have canopies. You can use the same basic instructions for each model because Reid uses an identical bolt construction assembly method for all their beds.
Instructions
1. Lie the headboard on the floor. Attach a post on each side of the headboard by sliding the bolt from the headboard through a hole in the post. Screw a nut onto each bolt to secure the posts and tighten with the included hand tool.
2. Lay the foot board on the floor opposite the headboard. Attach the two posts on each side of the foot board the same way you attached the posts to the headboard.
3. Stand the headboard up. Hold the headboard in the position where you want it to be when the bed is fully assembled. Insert one of the side rails into the corresponding headboard post, sliding the bolt on the rail into the hole on the post. Tighten a nut on the other side of the post to secure the side rail in place. Repeat with the other side rail.
4. Stand the foot board up and position it opposite the headboard. Line up the left side rail and slide the bolt from the post into the hole in the side rail. Tighten the nut to secure the side rail in place and then repeat with the right side rail.
5. Attach the sides of the canopy to the top of the posts the same way you attached the side rails to the posts of the headboard and foot board if you ordered a bed with a canopy. The canopy bolt construction is identical to the bolt construction for the side rails. Attach the front and back rails of the canopy next.
6. Secure the three L-shaped pieces onto the left side rail and secure them in place with two bolts each using the predrilled holes. Repeat with the three pieces on the right side rail.
7. Check that all of the nuts are tight and then cover the holes with the bolts on the posts with the included cast-brass covers. Set the mattress on the bed, resting on the metal L-shaped support pieces.
Tips Warnings
Your colonial bed may require slight variations for assembly. Your bed may not have a canopy or a foot board, for example. Check the assembly instructions included with your purchase for more information specific to your bed and for a parts list.
