Remove The Back Of A Ladies' Kenneth Cole Watch

Gaining access to the interior of a watch is a delicate procedure.

Watch backs are relatively small and sealed tightly. Opening one is tricky. A Kenneth Cole watch, like a timepiece from any other brand, has one of three different backings. Understanding remove them will help you decide if you should attempt the repair at home or take the watch to a professional. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Determine the watch back style you are working with, so you can acquire the proper equipment. A screw off watch back has notches around the edge and a screw in the middle. A pressure fit watch back is entirely smooth with no visible screws. A four screw watch back has four visible screws holding the plate in place.

2. Acquire the tools needed to repair your watch. To remove a screw from watch back, you will need a case holder and case opener. The case holder looks like a tiny clamp and will hold the watch in place so you are free to work with both hands. The case opener looks like a small ratchet. To remove a pressure fit back, you only need a case knife, which will allow you to pry the backing from the watch. To remove a four screw back, you need a set of watch screwdrivers with exceedingly small tips.

3. Place the watch in the case holder, if you have a screw off back. Otherwise, hold it steady with one hand.

4. Use the appropriate tool to remove the back. Work gently. If you are too forceful, you may damage a gasket in the watch. Place the case opener's point into the screw head to remove a screw off back. Begin turning the screw to loosen it. Find the small indention on the side of the backing plate, to remove a pressure fit plate. Insert the case knife. Pry open the watch. Choose a watch screwdriver that will fit into the screws appropriately, to remove a four screw plate. Twist the screwdriver to manually remove the screws and plate.

5. Set the back plate aside and any screws while you work on the watch.

6. Take the watch to a Kenneth Cole store or a jeweler if, at any point, you think you are harming the watch.
