Reset Parental Controls On A Playstation 2

Reset Parental Controls on a Playstation 2

In addition to playing video games, many gaming consoles can play DVDs. Sony's PlayStation 2, or PS2, is one such console that also offers built-in parental control features. Parental controls limit the types of movies that the PS2 can play and can be adjusted through a password. If you've forgotten the parental control password, you can reset it by using a master code that is recognized by all PS2 systems.

Instructions

1. Insert the DVD into the disk tray at the top of your PS2. Press "Power" on the front of the console.

2. Press "Select" on the PS2 controller when the PS2 requests the parental control password.

3. Enter the master password "7444." This code will delete your current password.

4. Enter a new numeric password. The code must contain four digits.

5. Reenter the numeric password when you're prompted to verify the code. You can edit parental controls with this password.

6. When you're returned to the original prompt screen, enter the new parental control password. The PS2 will begin playing the DVD.

7. Press "Select" while the PS2 is in DVD playback mode. Highlight the briefcase icon, which is the "Settings" menu, and press the "X" button.

8. Scroll through the available options to locate the parental controls option. Highlight this option and press "X."

9. Enter your parental control password when you're prompted in order to edit the parental control settings.

10. Select your desired parental control level using the one-to-eight scale. A setting of "1" will require the password to play any DVD; the "8" is the most lax setting. You can also turn the parental controls off through this menu. Press "X" to save your settings.

11. Restart your PS2 by holding down "Power" at the front of the console until the system turns off and reboots. Your new parental control settings will be applied to the system.
