The last thing any traveler wants to do is lug several suitcases around. Whether you're flying, driving or cruising, packing efficiently is one way to cut down on the number of bags you need. Learn fold your clothes properly to make the best use of space in your suitcase and thus make your trip much more pleasurable.
Instructions
1. Place your pants in your suitcase first. Position the pants lengthwise across the bottom of the suitcase with the bottoms of the legs hanging over the top edge. Your other packed items will go on top of your pants and when you reach the limit, fold the bottoms of the legs over the rest of your clothes.
2. Button up. Starting with your shirts, make sure all of the buttons are secured. Then lay the shirt face down, fold the arms back at the shoulder seams, then fold the shirt twice, once from the bottom and once from the top about a third of the way from the last hem and collar.
3. Roll up the tees. Since your tee shirts typically don't have to be as neat as your other shirts, you can save space by folding them in half once lengthwise and then rolling the shirt from the bottom up. The rolled shirts can also act as buffers for more fragile items in the suitcase.
4. Tuck the ties away. Fold each tie once from end to end and then place it on a sheet of plastic or tissue paper and roll it up. You can secure it with a rubber band, and to keep it in good condition, put it in one of your shoes that you're packing in the suitcase.
5. Turn tailored jackets inside out. Leave these items unbuttoned, turn them inside out and then fold them once lengthwise. Then fold each jacket horizontally into thirds and place it into a plastic bag for added safeguarding.
6. Store socks in shoes with the ties. Socks can be another space-eating clothing item if they are not rolled up from toe to top. After rolling each pair, find a shoe to tuck it into to save precious room in your suitcase.
