Escape A Dog Attack

If you feel threatened by a dog, remain as still as possible..

Dogs attack humans for many reasons including self defense, feeling that its family is threatened in some way or because it was provoked, even if you did not do the provoking. To escape a potentially harmful or even fatal dog attack, it is important to be aware of the things that make an already angry dog more violent. It may be your first instinct to run and call for help, but this is the very last thing you want to do when trying to escape a dog attack.

Instructions

1. Put an object between you and the dog if it begins to attack you by "feeding" it your jacket, purse or briefcase, shoes, hat or any other item you have on you. This gives the dog something else to attack while keeping space between you and the dog.

2. Curl up in a ball if you happen to fall over during the altercation with a dog. Keep your arms close to your body while they protect your head. Hold your hands over your ears and remain silent and motionless until you feel it is safe to move.

3. Keep your hands balled up if you feel a dog attack approaching. Cover your neck, chest and torso by crossing your arms over them; these are the most important body parts to keep safe and unharmed, if possible.

4. Avoid eye contact with a dog that is making you feel threatened. Stand as still as you can until the dog gives up and walks away.
