Carryon Suitcase Sizes

Carry-on suitcases reduce the chance of the bag being lost.

Packing for a trip is an important travel preparation whether you are going on a long holiday or a short break. You can save time at the airport by only traveling with a carry-on suitcase rather than a larger one that you have to check. Airlines have requirements for the dimensions and weights of carry-on luggage.

Dimensions

Carry-on bags should be 22 inches long, 14 inches tall and 9 inches wide or smaller. The baggage should be able to fit underneath the passenger seat or in the overhead storage compartment. Many airlines have size-checking devices at the aircraft gate.

Weight

The maximum weight of a carry-on bag is 40 pounds.

Other Hand Baggage Requirements

You may carry one piece of hand baggage plus a briefcase, purse or laptop computer bag. You can also carry a coat, umbrella, cane or another "special" item. Special items include crutches, wheelchairs, strollers, infant car seats or diaper bags, two golf clubs, reading material, cameras or two-wheeled luggage strollers.

Liquid Rules

You are restricted in the amount of liquid that you can have in your carry-on luggage. You can have the maximum of one 4.3 ounce bottle of liquid, such as cosmetics. This should be packed in a one-quart sized, clear plastic zip-top bag.
