Make My Laptop Portable

You can improve the portability of your laptop.

While laptop computers are already designed to be portable (at least when compared to desktop computers), there are still a few things that you can do to increase portability and make sure that you'll be able to use your laptop whenever you need it. Though you'll certainly be able to travel around with your laptop as soon as you take it out of the box, that isn't going to last long unless you take a few precautions and make a few adjustments along the way.

Instructions

1. Make sure your laptop battery is fully charged before you leave the house. The laptop's battery allows the unit to be portable, but it will not hold an infinite charge. To maximize the amount of time you can carry your laptop computer around with you, plug the unit into a wall outlet using its AC adapter and wait for the "Battery Life Indicator" on your computer's screen to reach 100-percent capacity.

2. Buy a laptop carrying case. Laptop carrying cases come in all shapes and sizes, designed for all models of laptop computer. If you need to carry your laptop around with you, this can be a great way to do so and not have to worry about dropping it. Certain laptop carrying cases are designed to mimic briefcases or purses, while others are designed more to look like backpacks and things of that nature.

3. Make sure your laptop computer has wireless networking capabilities. Most laptop computers purchased in the last few years will have a wireless networking card already built in, but if yours doesn't, then that will be something you'll need to invest it. Wireless networking allows your laptop computer to connect to an Internet signal in public places. This allows you to check your email and surf the Web wherever you go, which only ups the portability of the unit.

4. Invest in a good set of headphones. While your laptop computer does have a set of speakers installed in its case, if you travel with your laptop a lot, you may find yourself in situations where you cannot use them. Places like a library or coffee shop wouldn't be an appropriate place to start listening to music on your laptop computer. If you have a set of headphones, however, you can plug them into your laptop's case and continue to use the sound capabilities of your machine wherever you are.
