Make Knot Key Rings

Custom-made key rings can help you display your creativity every day. You can make decorative knot key rings in a variety of patterns with several different knots, so be sure to experiment with your string and key ring as you go. It may be difficult to get the hang of the knots the first time, so try them several times until you get them just the way you want them.

Instructions

Braid Knot

1. Tie one end of the string to the key chain and let the other end hang.

2. Make a circle with the string and pull the end of the string down so it bisects the circle. The free string should make a loop around the top of the circle. You will end up with three strands to work with.

3. Braid the three parts of the string together, just like you would braid hair. Start with the right side and bring it over the middle, then bring the left side over the middle and finally bring the middle piece over the left side. Repeat until the entire string is braided.

4. Take two strings and pull them both through the keychain so the keychain rests in the middle of them. Make sure the sides are even. Tie a simple knot with the strings to keep them in place.

5. Lie the key ring down on a table with the strings flat. You may wish to tape it down with a piece of tape in order to keep it secure through your knotting process.

6. Take the first string on the left and pass over the two strings to its right and under the fourth string to its far right. Move the fourth string on the far right under the two middle strings and over the first string.

7. Pull the first string, which is now on the far right, to the left and over the middle two strings and underneath the fourth string, which is now to the far left. Keep the fourth string over the first string, underneath the middle two strings and back over the first string on the other side.

8. Tighten the knot and repeat the process.
