Continental Airlines Luggage Restrictions

Briefcases can be carry-on luggage.

Continental Airlines imposes restrictions on both carry-on and checked luggage. Some of the restrictions are Transportation Security Administration mandates for security purposes, while others are airline regulations.

Carry-on Luggage

The maximum bag size allowed for a carry-on is 14 by 9 by 22 inches. Luggage must weight less than 40 pounds. You can carry on an item, such as a briefcase or purse, in addition to the luggage.

Checked Luggage

Each passenger can check up to two pieces of luggage. Members of the airline's frequent flyer program or U.S. Military members can check up to three pieces per person. The maximum outside dimension permitted for checked luggage is 62 inches.

Fees

Some flights assess fees on all luggage checked as of 2010. Check with Continental to learn if a specific flight will incur fees. Expect to pay a fee for additional luggage or bags larger than maximum requirements.
